Life is much too short to put up with the bad things. At times we feel that we have an eternity on this Earth and so we wait the bad things out and take the small joys for granted. It sounds blatantly inauthentic, but it couldn’t be more true.
We tend to get so caught up in the chaos that is life and tell ourselves that we’ll hold off on our dreams for later, we spend more time dreaming than living. If only we stopped to ask ourselves why? What are we waiting for? Then we would see that our reasons for not living are in fact blunt excuses. Take the leap, and be brave.
Sometimes we forget what a gift it is to be alive: To walk, to see, to feel, to experience. We become blinded by the big things that lay claim to our lives. What is left when we remove the job, the much anticipated promotion, the pressure of good grades, the social status, the prestigious school that we absolutely must get into? The answer is of course the simple things that in the daily chaos of our lives begin to lose their meaning.
Unfortunately, it is when something like a concussion takes those little things away, that we realize just how much of a gift they are, and how fortunate we are to have them. It is when something evil snatches a simple thing away that everything else becomes worthless. We realize their fragility, and are made witness to their responsibility for holding our lives together. Do not be ignorant enough to take them for granted. Do not allow a concussion to make you realize their value. The problem is not that we have a short life on this Earth, but that we spend a long time wasting it. Treasure every second, every moment, every little thing.
